We value the loving support of an intentional community that takes refuge in the three jewels Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.

Our community

Carol Cano is co-founder and guiding teacher for Philippine Insight Meditation Community.  She started her practice over 25 years ago in Wat Ko Tahm in Thailand.  She served on the Diversity Council with SRMC for several years, was mentored by Jack Kornfield for four years, and completed the Community Dharma Leadership program with Spirit Rock.  She is currently teaching around the Bay Area and has joined the Leadership Sangha at EBMC.  She has a unique braiding of Native American and Basque spirituality to her Dharma practice.

We are an urban-based meditation community based in the Theravada tradition.  Our community offers bi-weekly group meditation and a beginner's series for those wanting to learn more about mindfulness meditation and to explore the basic foundations of Buddhism.  We offer quarterly community daylong retreats and an annual residential retreat.  We encourage the community to engage in an intensive Vipassana meditation retreat in Thailand or other neighboring Buddhist countries.

We value the loving support of our beloved advisors whom we regularly turn to for guidance on keeping the integrity of our practice, teachings, and the growth of our community .

Our lay teachers are serious practitioners and students of the Buddha-Dharma.  It is our commitment to guide the growth of our Sangha (community) by embodying and propagating the life-changing virtues of the Buddha's teachings.

Philippine Insight Meditation Community aims to support the cultivation of awakening and compassion through teaching of the Dharma and practice of mindfulness.
